To the editor:

I would like to express my sincere thanks to Annette Glenn for her outstanding response to my call for help.

Navigating these pandemic times have been extremely frustrating to say the least. I am an independent computer consultant, working in hospitals all over the U.S. and Canada. The pandemic caused my business to come to a screeching halt in November 2019. I had a small savings for times when contracts were scarce but come February 2020, it was very low.

When the government provided the means for unemployment to be extended to people in my circumstances, I was relieved. No matter that I had worked in hospitals during N1H1, SARS, and Ebola, and there were no shut downs. I felt that the pandemic financial crisis was created by my government, it is fair they offered a remedy. The crux of the matter was our UIA was not equipped to handle such a crisis. It was not the people of UIA, they are outstanding. It is the system.

One call to Annette Glenn and two days later, it was taken care of. My check was deposited and my “essential” bills were paid. What an incredible relief! I must admit at this point that politicians never impressed me. I had very little trust in that sphere. I was part of the silent majority. However, in that one phone call, Annette made me feel that I mattered, that someone truly cared. I will no longer be silent.
